The six-nation foreign minister's meeting of China, the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany was held in Berlin on January 22, 2008. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the meeting. The foreign ministers exchanged opinions on the draft resolution of the UN Security Council on the Iranian nuclear issue and discussed the overall next steps. All the parties at the meeting agreed to keep close communications and consultations in that regard.
Yang stressed that it complies with the common interest of the international community to maintain the international non-proliferation regime, solve the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully through diplomatic negotiations and keep peace and stability in the Middle East. Related parties should intensify their diplomatic efforts, actively and innovatively find the ways of breaking the deadlock and solve the issue comprehensively and appropriately in the long run. The move of the Security Council should be beneficial to realizing such goals.
He added that China is committed to working for peace and facilitating talks and is willing to work with the international community and play a constructive role of properly addressing the Iranian nuclear issue.
